The German government rejected the demands of US President Donald Trump to participate in the operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
This was stated by German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius, reports on n-tv, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
“This war has nothing to do with NATO. This is not a NATO war,” he said.
According to the spokesman, NATO is an alliance to protect its territory and has no mandate to deploy NATO in this conflict.
Cornelius assured that Berlin would not join the military defense of the Strait of Hormuz.
“As long as this war continues, there will be no involvement, not even in any effort to keep the Strait of Hormuz open by military means,” a government spokesman said.
- Earlier, Trump said that NATO could have a “very bad” future if the allies did not help unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
