“They did not even see our weapons”: Ukraine at the head of the coalition “sank” the NATO frigate in the exercise – FAZ

A multinational naval team led by Ukraine, which played the role of “enemy” in the NATO exercise “REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 2025,” discovered the vulnerability of NATO naval forces and “sank” at least one allied frigate.

This became known to the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung  (FAZ), informs the portal PromPolitInform.

During the REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 2025 exercise in Portugal, the so-called “red” team, consisting of American, British, Spanish and other units and led by Ukraine, competed with the “blue” team – NATO forces – in several scenarios.

A source from Ukraine, who was directly involved in last year’s NATO exercises, told the publication that the five training scenarios included practicing the protection of ports and convoys.

In all five scenarios, a team led by Ukraine defeated the forces of the Alliance.

According to the rules of the exercises, the winner was those who “attacked,” that is, aimed at the enemy ships.

According to sources, during a simulated attack on the convoy, the Reds made so many “hits” in the NATO frigate that he would have drowned in a real battle.

“The problem was not that they could not stop us – they did not even see our weapons,” the source said.

Ukrainians also brought several versions of their Magura V7 sea drone to the training. One carried reconnaissance equipment and an explosive charge, the other a machine gun.

As noted by the FAZ, these exercises clearly demonstrated that unmanned systems, combined with operational experience and proven planning, pose a “real threat” to NATO naval forces, given that the Alliance is not yet properly prepared for attacks with the use of such weapons.

A spokesman for the Alliance confirmed the exercise to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, calling it “a historic milestone that confirms Ukraine’s growing role in NATO exercises,” as it was the first time the Ukrainian navy had coordinated enemy forces.
