In June, Kyivstar will turn off 3G in a number of settlements in Lviv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions

On June 16, 2026, the mobile operator Kyivstar will begin the next stage of network modernization. In a number of settlements in Lviv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions, 3G will be turned off, and the freed frequencies will be transferred to the development of fourth-generation networks – 4G. This, Mediasat informs, is stated in a message on the operator’s website. The PromPolitInform portal reports.

The company calls this step part of a long-term network development strategy. The withdrawal of outdated communication standards from operation corresponds to the international practice of leading telecommunications operators, which are consistently reducing the share of 3G in favor of newer technologies.

The Lviv region will be affected the most. In particular, 4G will replace 3G in Yavoriv, Novoyavorivsk, Yavoriv and Sambir districts, as well as in Drohobych district, Zolochiv, Zolochiv district, Mykolaiv, Stryi and Sheptytsky districts.

In Zhytomyr region, the changes will cover Berdychiv and Zvyahel districts. In Cherkasy region, the transition will take place in Zolotonosh, Zolotonosh district, Kaniv, Horodyshche and Cherkasy district. In Chernihiv region, 3G will be turned off in Pryluky and Chernihiv districts. u

According to the company, the purpose of the changes is to increase the speed and quality of mobile Internet for subscribers in these settlements.

It is worth noting that this is not the operator’s first such step. We previously reported that on May 26, 2026, Kyivstar will also turn off 3G in a number of settlements in Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions, also directing the released frequencies to the development of 4G.
