Changes affected tasks in two subjects
This year’s model of the national multi-subject test (NMT) will not undergo radical transformations compared to last year, but applicants should pay attention to updates in the physics and chemistry tests. As reported by the PromPolitInform portal, this was told in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by the head of the Ukrainian Center for Education Quality Assessment (UCEA), Tetyana Vakulenko.
Main:
3+1 testing model: Like last year, Ukrainian language, mathematics and history of Ukraine remain mandatory. The fourth subject is at the participant’s choice.
Regulations: NMT-2026 will be held on one day in two stages of 120 minutes each with a 20-minute break between them.
Changes in physics: Two tasks with a choice of one correct answer have been added to the test.
Chemistry update: The number of tasks has been reduced from 30 to 24.
No open-ended answers: In 2026, the test will not contain tasks that require extensive writing or solving.
Test structure: 3+1
“No significant changes are planned in the conduct of the NMT this year compared to 2025. The testing model has remained unchanged,” says Vakulenko.
Each participant will take four subjects:
Compulsory: Ukrainian language, mathematics and history of Ukraine.
Optional: Ukrainian literature, foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish), biology, chemistry, physics or geography.
Conducting regulations
As in 2025, testing will take place on one day in two stages:
The first stage (120 min): Ukrainian language and mathematics.
Break: up to 20 minutes.
The second stage (120 min): history of Ukraine and a subject of choice.
Adjustments in Physics and Chemistry Tasks
Although the general model is stable, the changes affected two subjects:
Physics: two tasks with a choice of one correct answer were added.
Chemistry: the number of tasks was reduced – instead of 30 (as it was last year), applicants will complete 24 tasks.
“Traditionally, in 2026, the NMT will not contain tasks that require a detailed answer,” emphasized Tetyana Vakulenko.
This means that the test format remains fully computerized and focused on closed-ended question types.
Earlier, we wrote that registration for the NMT-2026 will last from March 5 to April 2. To do this, you need to create a personal account. Graduates from abroad should hurry up, as the number of places in examination centers in other countries is limited.
