Kyivstar, the largest Ukrainian telecommunications operator, which at the end of last year acquired the operator of a solar power plant (SPP) with a capacity of 12.947 GVA in Zhytomyr region for $3 million, plans to acquire six more companies – SPP operators in Lviv region: LLC Energopostach-Plus, Lightfull, Sunlight Generation, Ternovytsia Solar, Energy Space and Ternovytsia Solar Plus. This is reported by Open4Business, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
According to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, it granted Kyivstar PrJSC the relevant permission on Thursday.
In July 2021, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine already granted permission to purchase these SPPs, but then the potential buyer was the French Total Eren S.A. (a subsidiary of Total).
At that time, it was about more than 100 GVA of installed capacity: Energy Space (5.94 GVA and 5.797 GVA), Ternovytsia Solar (13.023 GVA and 15.537 GVA), Ternovytsia Solar Plus (12.382 GVA and 15.537 GVA), Sunlight Generation (5.94 GVA and 5.797 GVA), Energopostach-Plus (5.94 GVA and 5.797 GVA) and Lightfull (5.94 GVA and 5.79).
The main beneficiary of Energy Space and Ternovytsia Solar Plus, according to the YouControl resource, is Vsevolod Trofymenko from the family of owners of the Multiplex cinema chain, Ternovytsia Solar, Sunlight Generation, Energopostach-Plus and Lightfull – Ivan Torsky, who was the general director of the development holding “TKS”.
On March 13, during the presentation of the group’s annual report, CEO and President of Kyivstar Oleksandr Komarov noted that the first solar power plant purchased at the end of last year produces electricity equivalent to 4% of Kyivstar’s annual electricity consumption.
According to him, such investments are a hedge against energy costs, which is one of the largest fixed cost items of the company. They correspond to the strategy of supporting the recovery and energy independence of Ukraine, and also complement the needs of digital services.
“Increasing our presence in the energy sector is a natural hedge for us against the growth of these prices in the near future,” CFO Borys Dolgushyn added at the time.
Kyivstar Group in 2025 increased EBITDA by 30% to UAH 27 billion with revenue growth of 30.3% to UAH 48.2 billion, including in the fourth quarter of last year EBITDA increased by 23.1% to UAH 7.2 billion with revenue growth of 30.1% to UAH 13.5 billion.
