Spain will give Ukraine five Patriot PAC-2 missiles worth about 15 million euros, reports El País, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to the publication, the decision was confirmed after the March meeting of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Madrid.
We are talking about missiles modification PAC-2. Although they are not the latest version of the complex, their cost is estimated at about $3-4 million per unit. The total amount of delivery is about 15 million euros.
This is not the first transfer by Spain of ammunition for Patriot systems. Madrid has previously handed over missiles to Ukraine for these complexes in 2024.
+1 million euros of military aid
In addition, Sanchez confirmed the provision of military assistance to Ukraine for 1 billion euros in 2026 under a bilateral agreement signed last year. After that, the total amount of Spanish military assistance to Kyiv since the beginning of a full-scale war will reach 4 billion euros.
The transfer of missiles takes place against the background of a shortage of ammunition for Patriot systems. Earlier in the EU it was reported that during the winter attacks of Russia, Ukraine spent about 700 interceptor missiles, which roughly corresponds to the annual volume of their production in the United States.
Against this background, Ukraine’s partners continue to look for additional opportunities to strengthen air defense.
