Ukrainian spelling as a state language standard has come into force. Now its text has been published on the official website of the National Commission on State Language Standards. As BlakSeaNews writes, this was reported by the National Commission. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

“On March 28, 2026, after the adoption of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 398 dated March 27, 2026 “On the recognition of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated May 22, 2019 No. 437 “On the Issue of Ukrainian Spelling” as invalid”, the state language standard “Ukrainian Spelling”, approved by the Resolution of the National Commission on State Language Standards dated March 1, 2026 No. 47, came into force. The text of this state language standard is published on the official website of the Commission,” the message says.

The decisions of the National Commission on State Language Standards are mandatory for implementation throughout the territory of Ukraine, therefore the effect of the state language standard “Ukrainian Spelling” extends to all spheres of public life defined in the legislation, in particular in the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”.

Ukrainian spelling was developed jointly with the National Commission on State Language Standards by a working group consisting of leading scientists from the O. O. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Language and Information Fund of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and I. I. Mechnikov Odessa National University.

No changes have been made to the established rules of Ukrainian spelling for users. The text has been subject to editorial and technical corrections, in particular: the structure of the spelling as a normative document has been unified and brought into line with current norms, technical errors (printing, repetitions, etc.) have been corrected, the names of objects that relate to the aggressor state and its allies have been removed from the illustrative material, some norms have been supplemented with examples, the emphasis of some words and word forms in the illustrative material has been clarified, the wording of some parts, paragraphs, sub-paragraphs and notes has been clarified (without changing the norm), the text has been supplemented with a subsection “Ukrainian alphabet”.

The Commission plans to continue working with the Ukrainian spelling in order to improve it and resolve problematic issues in it.
