A delegation of American officials may arrive in Ukraine in the near future to restart the negotiation process to end the war. The head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, said in an interview with Bloomberg that the group should include key confidants of Donald Trump – Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, as well as Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. This is reported by Bukvy, according to the PromPolitInform portal.
“Kushner, Witkoff, Lindsey Graham are the ones we are waiting for. We’ll see who else will be there,” Budanov said, adding that the trip may take place shortly after Easter, April 12.
It is worth noting that Volodymyr Zelensky previously suggested that the American side would offer Ukraine to give up the occupied Donbas in exchange for future security guarantees. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sharply denied this information:
“That’s a lie. It’s unfortunate that he said that because he knows it’s not true, and that’s not what he was told.”
At the same time, the Ukrainian leadership is concerned about the shift in the focus of US attention to the Middle East. In an interview with the Associated Press, Zelensky admitted that the conflict in Iran makes Ukraine a less priority topic for allies:
“We have to admit that today we are not a priority. That’s why I’m afraid that a long war [in the Middle East] will give us less support.”
Sources report that the basis for future discussions may be the American 28-point plan, which, among other things, provides for elections in Ukraine within 100 days after the cessation of hostilities.
At the end of March, the Ukrainian negotiating team completed a series of two-day meetings with representatives of the US presidential administration, focusing on a model for a just end to the war and security guarantees for Europe. President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported positive diplomatic signals regarding the possible resumption of exchange processes.
On March 21, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the Ukrainian delegation had met with representatives of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
