Ukraine is preparing for a phased increase in tariffs: what is known

A phased increase in electricity tariffs for the population is being worked out in Ukraine, which could start as early as this summer. According to preliminary calculations, the cost of electricity could increase by about 25% annually for four years. This approach is seen as a way to gradually level the economy of the energy market and ensure stable financing for the restoration of energy infrastructure. This is reported by “Pershy Business“, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

The relevant departments explain that the current tariffs do not cover the real cost of electricity production and delivery, especially after large-scale damage to the power system. The phased increase should reduce the deficit in the industry and create a resource for the modernization of networks operating under constant load.

In parallel, the government is preparing updated support mechanisms for low-income households. This concerns the expansion of subsidies, possible targeted compensation and clarification of the criteria for receiving assistance so that the increase in tariffs does not become critical for socially vulnerable groups.

Recall that a gradual increase in tariffs can help reduce the energy market’s dependence on budget subsidies and make financing for the industry more predictable. The final decision on the pace and start date of the increase will be made after the completion of technical calculations and consultations with international partners.
