On April 11, Ukraine and Russia held a prisoner exchange, during which 175 military personnel and 7 civilians were returned. This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Ukrainka Pravda reports. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
It is noted that among the released are representatives of the Armed Forces, National Guardsmen, border guards who defended Ukraine in various directions: in Mariupol, at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhia, Sumy, Kyiv, as well as in the Kursk region.
According to the president, among the exchanged there are wounded, most of whom have been in captivity since 2022.
“I thank each unit that replenishes our exchange fund and thus brings the return of our people closer.
Returning everyone from Russian captivity is of fundamental importance to us. Thank you to everyone in the world who helps us with this.”
The Coordination Headquarters reported that the youngest person released was 22 years old, and the oldest was 63 years old.
The agency noted that it managed to free 25 officers, whom the Russian side had previously refused to exchange.
All 7 civilians were enslaved by Russian occupation forces back in 2022, the Coordination Headquarters added.
