Margarita Robles will hold a series of official meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government, in particular, bilateral negotiations with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov are planned.
On April 22, 2026, Margarita Robles, Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Spain, arrived in Kyiv on an official visit.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Spain, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
The first working day of the minister in Kyiv began with a ceremony honoring the memory of the fallen Ukrainian defenders – she laid flowers at the Wall of Memory on Mikhailovskaya Square.
During the visit, Margarita Robles will hold a series of official meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government and military leadership. The purpose of the visit is to assess the state of bilateral cooperation, discuss further support for Ukraine in the defense, security and humanitarian spheres, as well as confirm Spain’s firm position on the need for a “just and lasting peace” based on international law.
She has already held a meeting with the acting head of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Major General Valery Vavrinyuk, who told them about working with drones.
“Drones are key in the war in Ukraine. This year alone, the Border Guard Service shot down 4,000 such aircraft,” he said.
Robles confirmed to the head of the State Border Service support for Spain in the form of sending equipment, training and humanitarian cooperation.
The minister also plans bilateral negotiations with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov.
Presentation of the Order of Princess Olga
A special moment of the visit will be the presentation of the Order of Princess Olga of the III degree to Margarita Robles. The award on behalf of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will be presented in recognition of Spain’s significant contribution to the military and humanitarian support of Ukraine.
“Cooperation and solidarity between nations are extremely important for overcoming common challenges and moving towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict,” Margarita Robles said.
This visit takes place against the background of the large-scale assistance to Ukraine announced by Spain in 2026 – the country plans to allocate 1 billion euros of military support, some of which is aimed at joint projects with the Ukrainian defense industry.
The minister’s visit will also include a stop in Moldova.
