This year, the European Union will pay Ukraine 16.7 billion euros in budget support, half of which will come in three tranches through the macrofinancial assistance (MFA) instrument. This, informs “European Truth“, the publication says in an article. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
Under the macrofinancial assistance (MFA) instrument, the EU will pay Ukraine 8.35 billion euros this year, which are planned to be transferred in three tranches.
According to “European Truth”, the first tranche will amount to 3.2 billion euros and will be paid no later than June. The second part of the funds – 3.7 billion euros – will come to Ukraine approximately in the summer or immediately after the summer. It is expected that Kyiv will receive the third tranche in the amount of 1.45 billion euros closer to late autumn.
This is only half of the budget part of the 90 billion euro loan from the EU. The remaining financial support – 8.35 billion euros – will be provided to Kyiv through the Ukraine Facility. Unlike the IFA, this program requires reforms to be implemented in order to receive funds.
It should be noted that the 90 billion euro loan does not provide for the return of the aid received from Ukraine. The EU decision provides that Kyiv will be obliged to repay the loan only if it receives reparations from Russia. Otherwise, it will be paid by the 24 member states of the bloc.
As is known, on April 23, the EU Council adopted amendments to the long-term EU budget for 2021-27 by written procedure, which will allow Ukraine to be provided with 90 billion euros of credit in 2026-27.
According to the publication, the first tranche of the “military” part of the 90 billion euro EU loan will amount to 6 billion and will be received by Ukraine in June at the latest.
