Forest fire in the Chernihiv region has grown to 5800 hectares: extinguishing is complicated by constant shelling.
On the territory of the Koryukovsky nadlesnichestvo of the Chernihiv region, the area of a large-scale forest fire reached 5800 hectares.
It is reported by the Northern Forest Office, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to foresters, the fire broke out on May 5 and covered the territories of three forests, and also affected the quarters of another.
The office noted that most of the fires are in areas where it is currently impossible to reach for full extinguishing.
In accessible areas, foresters lay mineralized strips, restrain the spread of fire with knapsack sprayers and bring water.
Also, heavy equipment, tractors with disc harrows and plows were involved in the work.
In total, 129 kilometers of mineralized strips have already been laid.
Work continues under fire
The Northern Forest Office stressed that the work is complicated by the constant threat of Russian shelling.
“While the foresters are holding back the fire front, Russian troops continue to attack the territory. At the risk of their own lives, the forest guard is doing everything possible to prevent the further spread of the fire,” the office said.
The forest office added that the situation is partially improved by rainy weather.
Precipitation helps to extinguish individual fires, and in some areas the fire is gradually eliminated naturally.
