New rules for drivers from June 1: who will be forced to undergo a technical inspection and how will they be punished for tinting

From June 1, 2026, control over compliance with traffic rules and the operation of cars is being significantly strengthened in Ukraine.

From June 1, 2026, Ukrainian drivers are facing a number of significant changes in the rules for the operation of cars and road traffic control. In particular, checks on tinted windows are being tightened in Ukraine, mandatory technical inspections are being introduced, and the system for automatic recording of traffic violations is being expanded. This is stated on the Expert portal, according to the PromPolitInform portal.

One of the key innovations will be control over tinted windows. Patrol officers have received new devices to check the light transmission of glass, so the number of inspections on the roads will increase. Drivers who fail to comply with the established standards will be fined 510 hryvnias. If the violation is recorded again, the car owner will be issued an order to remove the tinting within ten days, and if this requirement is ignored, the car may be temporarily taken to a towing yard.

Another significant innovation for drivers will be a mandatory technical inspection. The first to undergo it will be vehicles used in commercial activities: taxis, car sharing services and delivery service vehicles. You will have to pay from 800 to 1,500 hryvnias for the procedure, depending on the region. If serious technical malfunctions are detected, experts have the right to prohibit the car from entering the roads until they are completely eliminated.

The changes will also affect parking. In large cities such as Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa and Dnipro, updated tariffs will come into effect. On average, the cost of parking may increase by 15-20%. At the same time, the authorities are expanding paid parking zones and installing additional control cameras.

The fine for unpaid parking, as before, will be 340 hryvnias, but violators will now be detected automatically. Thanks to the latest control systems, a resolution on the violation will be formed without the involvement of an inspector.

At the same time, the number of automatic traffic cameras is increasing in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 150 new complexes will appear on the roads by the end of the summer. At the same time, the devices will record not only speeding, but also driving through a red light and unauthorized entry into the public transport lane.

Currently, the size of fines for speeding is unchanged: from 340 to 1,700 hryvnias, depending on the severity of the violation. It is worth noting that the automation of the control system will significantly complicate the possibility of evading responsibility.

To avoid unplanned expenses and fines, experts advise car owners to go for diagnostics in advance, make sure that the tinting complies with current requirements, and carefully monitor the new parking rules.
