In May, the Russian occupation army captured 14 square kilometers of the territory of Ukraine. This is the worst result for the aggressor country Russia since October 2023, when it launched a strategic offensive operation. This, Ukrainian News reports, the Ukrainian analytical project DeepState reported on Monday, June 1. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
“The Russians completely failed in May — this is the worst increase in occupied territory since October 2023, when the enemy launched a strategic offensive operation on most sections of the front. According to our map, in May the enemy occupied only 14 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory,” DeepState said in a statement.
DeepState analysts note that an interesting fact in the dynamics of the Russian advance is that in May they increased the number of assault operations by 37.5%. In a month, the enemy carried out more than 7,000 attacks on the front.
Despite the increase in the number of attacks, the occupiers are unable to achieve success. This is due to the fact that the army of the aggressor country continues to degrade at the tactical level.
“We are constantly provided with videos where the occupiers conduct assault operations in pairs at best, and very often 1 Russian storms alone. But until it arrives, everything will come through it,” the report says.
At the same time, DeepState draws attention to the fact that the tendency for Russian infantry groups to infiltrate continues. At the same time, the reaction of the Ukrainian Defense Forces has significantly intensified, which is why it is increasingly difficult for the Russians to carry out so-called “flag operations”.
The situation in the area of Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, remains problematic. DeepState analysts believe that the prospects for the Ukrainian army on this section of the front are not the best.
As reported, on May 26, the Russian news project “We Can Explain” wrote that the pace of the Russian army’s offensive has fallen to its lowest level in two years. This is widely acknowledged by Z-channels, which claim that the situation on the front has reached a dead end.
Recall, on May 22, Bloomberg reported, citing its own sources, that part of the entourage of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin believes that the war has reached a dead end and has no clear path to resolution.
And on May 20, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that in recent months the Ukrainian Defense Forces have achieved the most significant successes on the front since the operation in the Kursk region in 2024.
