On the night of June 7, Russian troops attacked the container reception building at the site of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility, which is in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The press service of NNEGC Energoatom published a photo of the building damaged by the enemy attack, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
Energoatom clarified that at the time of the attack, no spent nuclear fuel was stored in the building.
Currently, the radiation background is within normal limits.
“Russia continues to resort to nuclear terror, threatening the security not only of Ukraine, but of all of Europe,” the report says.
Recall that the drone hit the site of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (CSSF) on June 7 at 02:10. As a result of the strike, a fire of about 40 square meters broke out in the container reception building – the fire was quickly extinguished.
According to preliminary data, there were no casualties as a result of the attack.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already responded to another Russian strike. They said that the Agency’s team at the Chernobyl site will soon visit the facility to inspect the consequences.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi also stressed that the incident is of serious concern, since the strike occurred at a facility containing significant amounts of nuclear materials – they are stored only a few meters from the affected building.
