Naftogaz Group has booked long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification capacity in Europe for the first time, choosing a terminal in Klaipeda (Lithuania) for the period from 2033 to 2044. According to the PromPolitInform portal, this was reported by Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
The relevant allocation procedure was successfully completed by the terminal operator KN Energies. For Ukraine, this step is an important stage in diversifying sources and routes of fuel supply, since previously such operations were carried out only in partnership with other companies. Now the country is entering a new level of cooperation and supply planning.
Such solutions are of strategic importance for Ukraine’s energy security, expand access to the global liquefied gas market and strengthen the long-term sustainability of gas supplies.
Naftogaz became one of five customers who booked long-term capacities of the Lithuanian terminal. Equinor, Ignitis, Latvenergo and Gasum did the same together with the Ukrainian company.
