In Ukraine, the approach to speeding penalties may change. The government is considering introducing a gradation of fines depending on the level of excess and strengthening responsibility for systematic violators, Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko reported on her Telegram channel. “For most drivers, nothing will change. The new rules are aimed primarily at those who regularly pose a danger to other road users,” Svirydenko noted.
According to her, over the past 12 months, automatic recording cameras have recorded almost 2,900 drivers who exceeded the speed limit more than 50 times. More than 35 thousand drivers were caught by cameras more than ten times a year. Almost 12.5 thousand more than twenty times.
It is expected that in the near future the Ministry of Internal Affairs will discuss new proposals with people’s deputies.
“We are working separately on the development of a system for automatic recording of violations. Today, about 377 cameras operate on the roads. We plan to increase their number to more than 410 complexes. Where control is in place, drivers are more likely to follow the rules,” the Prime Minister noted.
In addition, the government is preparing legislative regulation of the use of electric scooters and other light personal transport. The number of road accidents involving them increased by 66.8% in the first five months of 2026.
“People are dying and being injured, including children. The rules must be clear and understandable for all road users,” Svyrydenko added.
