Ukraine and Canada agreed to further deepen defense cooperation. The parties discussed strengthening air defense, supporting the production of Ukrainian drones, supplying long-range munitions and implementing joint defense-industrial projects. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
“Had a conversation with the Minister of National Defense of Canada David McGinty. We identified further steps in cooperation to strengthen Ukrainian defense and support the Defense Forces,” the message says.
One of the main focuses is air defense. Ballistic missiles remain one of the biggest challenges for Ukraine, so we discussed further support within the PURL mechanism and the possibility of purchasing PAC-3 missiles through JUMPSTART.
During the conversation, I thanked our partners for the AIM-9 missiles for F-16s, transferred with the logistical support of Belgium. They strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainian aviation and help counter Russian air threats.
We focused separately on supporting Ukrainian drone production. I called on Canada to expand investments in Ukrainian technologies through the “Danish model” and other mechanisms. We are scaling up solutions that have already proven their effectiveness on the battlefield.
We also discussed the supply of diesel pickup trucks for the Defense Forces and support for the procurement of long-range artillery ammunition within the Czech initiative.
“We also have joint defense-industrial projects that will strengthen the capabilities of our countries. “I am grateful to Canada for its consistent support for Ukraine and its readiness to assist in critically important areas of defense,” Fedorov emphasized.
