Ukraine has signed a contract with Germany for the supply of 600 missiles for air defense systems. The US decision on a license for the production of missiles for Patriot complexes in Europe is also expected. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with TSN, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
According to the head of state, the current US production capacity is about 700 missiles per year. He noted that the American side transferred production licenses to Germany, and the production of corresponding products has already begun there.
“We have already signed a contract with them for a serious amount, for 600 missiles. This is a good contract. But, of course, this is a long process,” Zelensky said.
The President also stated that European and American companies working with Patriot systems support the idea of producing missiles for these complexes in Europe. At the same time, the personal permission of US President Donald Trump is required to launch such production.
Zelensky said that during the G7 summit he discussed with Trump the issue of obtaining licenses for the production of air defense systems and missiles. After the meeting, the Ukrainian President reported that the American leader had a positive attitude to this issue.
At the same time, the Head of State stressed the need to find a more affordable European alternative to means of countering ballistic missiles.
