US President Donald Trump has introduced new customs tariffs on the import of unmanned aerial vehicles and critical components for them. The duty rates vary from 10% to 100% depending on the device characteristics and the country of origin. This was reported by UkrRudProm, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
According to the decree, the maximum rate of 100% applies to UAVs of particular importance for national security, as well as docking stations and a number of critical components. These restrictions specifically target aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of over 25 kilograms equipped with thermal imaging systems.
For smaller drones weighing 25 kilograms or less, a 25% duty on their value has been imposed. The White House stated that these measures are aimed at strengthening national security.
Differentiated rates for partners
The US administration also established preferential conditions for products from a number of countries. Imports of drones and parts from the European Union, Japan, Switzerland, South Korea, Taiwan, and Liechtenstein will be subject to a 15% tax rate.
The lowest duty was introduced for goods of British origin, set at 10%. In addition to security concerns, the White House emphasized the need for rapidly increasing domestic drone production in the United States.
