Retired Vice Admiral Mark Norman stated that the situation on the battlefield has improved for the Ukrainian army compared to last year. The expert predicts potential exhaustion of russian resources and the possibility of reaching a peace agreement in 2026–2027. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to the former Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada, the current state of the ZSU differs significantly from the situation a year ago. Mark Norman emphasized that the successes of Ukrainian defenders are achieved at the cost of significant human losses.

Prospects for ending the hostilities

The Vice Admiral expressed his conviction that russia’s military potential is gradually weakening. This could create more favorable conditions for Ukraine during future diplomatic negotiations to end the aggression.

“I would like to believe that somewhere in late 2026 or 2027 this war will end with a peace agreement, but I may be too optimistic,” noted Mark Norman. He added that forecasts regarding the timing of the conflict’s end remain complex.

Analysis of the security situation

According to assessments by Deputy Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Vadym Skibitskyi, russia currently lacks sufficient resources to conduct offensive operations in the north of Ukraine. The situation may change only in the event of additional mobilization following the September elections in the aggressor state.
