Swarmer acquires Ukrainian combat robot manufacturer Ratel for $224 million

The deal involves the takeover of a developer of field-tested ground platforms

American company Swarmer has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire the Ukrainian unmanned ground vehicle manufacturer Ratel Robotics. The total value of the transaction could reach 224 million dollars, subject to the achievement of certain milestones. This was reported by Swarmer, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

This deal marks the first major acquisition for Swarmer since the appointment of Erik Prince as chairman of the board. Upon completion of the process, over 300 specialists from the Ukrainian firm will join the buyer’s team, bringing the total headcount of the combined entity to nearly 500 employees. Taras Ostapchuk will continue to lead development as founder and CEO of Ratel Robotics, reporting directly to Swarmer President Alex Fink.

Technological integration on the front lines

Ratel Robotics’ portfolio includes a range of modular unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) used for logistics, casualty evacuation, demining, and reconnaissance. In addition to ground systems, the developer is working on proprietary UAV variants, mobile workshops, and solar-powered trailers. The company views ground platforms as universal launch systems for drones and other equipment, which will allow for integration with Swarmer’s autonomy software.

Contracts and market share

This year, the Ukrainian company has already secured 86 million dollars in contracts and is engaged in discussions with NATO nations under the “Build With Ukraine” initiative. From January 1 to April 18, 2026, the company’s products accounted for approximately 37% of the total UGV procurement volume managed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense Procurement Agency. The Ratel H and Ratel M models are certified under NATO standard AQAP 2110, confirming adherence to design and production quality requirements.
