Measures will be in effect for the duration of martial law within one kilometer of the border
The government of Ukraine has introduced a special border regime within a one-kilometer strip along the state border with the RF and Belarus. The restrictions will remain in effect during the period of martial law to strengthen the state's defensive capabilities. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Amendments to the regulatory framework governing activities in border zones were adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 1049 on August 17, 2026. As of today, these regulations have already entered into force, and units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have begun their practical implementation on the ground.
Purpose of the regime
The decision was developed in fulfillment of instructions from the state leadership and is aimed at minimizing risks associated with the ongoing armed aggression. Strengthening control is intended to ensure the defensive capabilities of border regions where there is a threat of reconnaissance and subversive activities.
Security aspects and limitations
Establishing a special regime within a distance of one kilometer from the border line with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is a necessary step. These measures aim not only to improve the level of security but also to protect civilians from potential dangers that may arise in the border areas due to the actions of hostile forces.
The restrictions are strictly temporary and linked to the term of the legal regime of martial law in Ukraine. Additional conditions for staying within the specified strip allow border guards to more effectively counter attempts to destabilize the situation in the northern and eastern regions of the country.
