The strike damaged a strategic enterprise repairing Tu-95MS bombers

On the night of September 15, the Russian city of Taganrog in Rostov Oblast was subjected to a missile strike. According to preliminary data from monitoring sources, the territory of the G. M. Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex, where military aircraft were undergoing repairs, could have come under attack.
Local residents published footage of thick smoke in the factory area and reported several explosions. The exact point of impact and the scale of destruction are currently being established by specialized services.
Significance of the aviation complex for the Russian army
The enterprise performs repairs and modernization of A-50 airborne early warning and control aircraft and Tu-95MS strategic bombers. According to specialized publications, the complex also develops the promising A-100 Premier AWACS aircraft and previously produced amphibious aircraft.
The greatest importance of the plant is associated with A-50 aircraft, without which Russian air defense loses the ability to coordinate and detect targets at long ranges. By the end of 2025, the enterprise closed the year with a loss equivalent to $65 million due to a decrease in production volumes caused by strikes.
Contracts and frontline location
The city is located just 40 km from the state border of Ukraine and regularly comes under attack. In May 2025, a contract worth 15.9 billion rubles for the repair of three Tu-95MS bombers with upgrades for Kh-101 cruise missiles was reported.
Several aviation facilities are concentrated in Taganrog, including a factory airfield and a military air base. Previously, the Beriev complex had already been targeted during earlier attacks by the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
