At the C8 summit, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the leaders of Poland and Serbia.
According to ArmyINFORM, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the results of the talks on September 18; the PromPolitInform portal also provided coverage.
During his meeting with Donald Tusk, the parties focused primarily on maintaining unity between Ukraine and Poland and on continued joint efforts aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked Poland for a new aid package for Ukraine, though the statement did not specify its contents.
“Ukraine and Poland are strong neighbors, friends, and partners, and we share a common enemy,” the President of Ukraine noted.
The Carpathian Initiative was a separate topic of discussion. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine is ready to share its experience with Poland and develop cooperation that will create practical opportunities for the countries of the Carpathian macro-region.
The meeting with Aleksandar Vučić addressed agreements reached earlier during Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Belgrade, as well as the European integration of Ukraine and Serbia and Russian strikes on Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine thanked Serbia for joining the Carpathian format and expressed his intention to continue the bilateral dialogue.
“It is important to develop it in such a way that every state in the region finds the economic and security opportunities it needs,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted. The Carpathian Summit on September 18 marked the first meeting of the C8—the “Carpathian Eight.” According to the official description, this new format aims to unite states within the Carpathian macro-region and neighboring countries around cooperation in security, energy, logistics, the cross-border economy, and community support.
As part of the summit, leaders are also participating in the inaugural Carpathian Business Forum. According to the President of Ukraine, the Carpathian Initiative is intended to serve as a dedicated platform for closer coordination among the region’s countries, particularly within the European Union framework.
