The main obstacle to system supplies remains the shortage of production capacities
US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that the main obstacle to supplying Patriot missiles to Ukraine is limited production capacities. According to him, the demand for such systems significantly exceeds global supply amid the deteriorating global security situation. This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The US Ambassador to NATO spoke about the efforts of Washington and its allies to find available interceptors for Ukraine through the PURL initiative. At the same time, he emphasized the need to expand production both in the United States and in European countries.
Production Capacities and Joint Projects
The diplomat noted that Washington is considering options for joint weapons production with European partners, in particular discussing initiatives with the Czech Republic. Despite the willingness to invest funds, such projects take time to implement and cannot solve current needs in the near future.
The possibility of licensed production of interceptors directly in Ukraine is being discussed separately. According to the official, complex details regarding export licenses and intellectual property rights are currently being coordinated to ensure the country’s needs in the long term.
Security Situation and Eastern Threats
The US Permanent Representative commented on the risks of russian attacks on European countries and the Alliance’s response to hybrid threats. He highlighted russia’s growing aggressiveness on the battlefield and called on European allies to invest more actively in counter-drone measures.
