The second station hall will have a direct exit to the first track for passenger convenience
Reconstruction of a second border and customs control hall has been completed at Chop railway station. The refurbished space will open in late September to speed up the processing of international passengers. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The official noted that expanding the station’s capacity became necessary due to the rising number of travelers using trains to the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia. Infrastructure upgrades are intended to make the processing of state procedures more comfortable and efficient for both Ukrainian citizens and foreign travelers.
Features of the renovated space
The reconstructed hall is located in the right wing of the station complex. The project includes a separate exit providing direct access to the first track, which significantly simplifies logistics for international passengers.
The Chop station building was constructed in 1980, and the original architectural design already included two zones for customs and border inspection. However, the second hall had not been operational for a long time and required major restoration.
Agency cooperation
The interior works were carried out through the joint efforts of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine. Representatives from the State Customs Service and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine also actively participated in the process.
The ongoing development of border station infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Ukraine’s connectivity with European Union countries. Improved service conditions are expected to contribute to further growth in international passenger traffic.
