The Kapotnya facility supplies 40% of the Russian capital's fuel needs
The Gazpromneft Moscow Oil Refinery caught fire following a nighttime drone strike in Moscow. The enterprise processes 11 million tons of oil annually. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Катерина Коваль) citing Astra, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Analysis of eyewitness footage indicates that the oil refinery in Moscow was among the targets of the nighttime attack. The mayor of the Russian capital confirmed the strike on one of the plant’s facilities.
Plant Capacity
The Moscow Oil Refinery, operated by JSC Gazpromneft-MNPZ, is one of Russia’s largest refining enterprises and is located in the Kapotnya district. Its processing capacity reaches 11 million tons of oil per year.
The facility provides about 40% of Moscow’s fuel market and 70% of the Moscow region’s demand for gasoline and jet fuel.
Scale of the Attack
Residents of Moscow and the surrounding region reported numerous explosions throughout the night, with the refinery being just one of the targets. Additional explosions and drone activity were registered in several directions in the Moscow area.
City authorities previously reported experiencing one of the largest-scale drone attacks in years during an earlier raid.
