A preferential price of 2.64 UAH will be in effect until April for households with official electric heating
Starting October 1, the preferential electricity tariff of 2.64 UAH per kWh returns for Ukrainians whose homes are equipped with electric heating. This price applies to consumption volumes of up to 2,000 kWh per month during the heating season. This was reported by Socportal citing the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The government’s decision provides for the restoration of a preferential electricity rate for household consumers who use it as the primary resource for heating premises. The corresponding tariff of 2.64 UAH per kWh will be in effect from October 1 to April 30, provided that the equipment is officially installed.
Criteria for receiving the benefit
The right to a reduced price belongs to owners of apartments and houses where electric heating is the primary source of heat. This includes facilities not connected to gas supply, central, or autonomous heating systems. Using standard electric heaters without proper documentation does not provide grounds for applying the preferential tariff.
For consumption volumes exceeding the limit of 2,000 kWh per month, the cost remains at the level of the national tariff, which is 4.32 UAH per kWh. This same price continues to apply to the majority of household consumers who do not meet the criteria for the preferential category, at least until October 31, 2026.
Economic impact of the price reduction
The financial advantage of the preferential tariff becomes noticeable when calculating heating expenses. For example, using 1,000 kWh at the preferential price will cost the consumer 2,640 UAH, whereas at the general tariff, an identical volume would cost 4,320 UAH. The savings in this case amount to 1,680 UAH.
When consuming 2,000 kWh, the difference in expenses reaches 3,200 UAH: payment at the preferential rate will be 5,280 UAH instead of 8,480 UAH at the standard price. It is important to remember that after the heating season ends, starting May 1, calculations will once again be performed at the base cost unless the government adopts new decisions regarding PSO regulation.
Future changes and tariffs
The established base price of 4.32 UAH per kWh is fixed by a government decree until October 31, 2026. Further steps by the authorities regarding tariff changes have not yet been determined; therefore, any forecasts for electricity costs for November and subsequent months are not official.
State regulation is aimed at supporting households for whom heating costs in winter are critical due to significant consumption volumes. The preferential period helps to offset the financial burden on consumers who found themselves in a situation of forced transition to electric heating due to a lack of access to other utility services.
