Defense plants of the aggressor state were hit in the Tula and Voronezh regions
Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a coordinated series of strikes against military-industrial complex facilities, logistics, and oil infrastructure across five regions of the russian federation, as well as in the Black Sea. According to information released by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, long-range strike weapons attacked defense plants in the Voronezh and Tula regions. Separately, units of the Security Service of Ukraine hit oil assets in Krasnodar Krai, occupier positions in Bryansk Oblast, and strike drone base infrastructure in Kaluga and Oryol Oblasts.
These operations became a direct reaction to a large-scale night and morning attack by russian troops against nine Ukrainian oblasts and Kyiv. As a result of the combined missile and drone strike, critical facilities were damaged in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. The residential sector suffered in Sumy, Rivne, Odesa, and Kharkiv Oblasts: in Kharkiv, 28 residents were injured, including nine children, due to the destruction of floors in an apartment building, while two civilians were killed in the Kyiv region, including a citizen of Azerbaijan.
Asymmetric response deep inside russian territory
Moving combat operations to the enemy’s industrial and logistical facilities marks a transition from passive defense to systematic undermining of the aggressor’s capabilities. As the President of Ukraine noted, neutralizing bases in Kaluga and Oryol Oblasts used for aerial terror aims to disrupt regular drone attacks. At the same time, the strike on a maritime target in the Black Sea weakens russia’s control over shipping lanes, where russian missiles continue to pose a threat, having damaged a Palau-flagged vessel in the Odesa region.
Such deep-strike activity directly relies on the expansion of domestic weapons production. As Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General Anatoliy Klochko, stated in interviews and media comments, the state has set scaling up domestic cruise and ballistic missiles, high-precision ammunition, and creating a national air defense system as its priority for 2025.
Development of the missile program and production base
According to data announced by Deputy Defense Minister Anatoliy Klochko, about 170 models of Ukrainian ammunition were approved for operation in 2024 alone, and over 20 new private enterprises joined the manufacturing of strike weapons. In addition to launched serial production of domestic cruise missiles, the defense sector successfully tested the first Ukrainian ballistic missile.
The further strategy consists of forming a single digital air defense field with automation and artificial intelligence. The military-political leadership views its own long-range nomenclature as a tool of strategic deterrence that reduces dependence on external factors and allows for the methodical liquidation of military threats at their source.
