Are Shahed drones capable of destroying the Pivdennyi bridge in Kyiv

Experts assessed the effectiveness of enemy attacks on large infrastructure facilities

Large-scale destruction of major bridges in Kyiv using Shahed-type strike drones is a technically impossible task. Russian forces use these UAVs primarily to create psychological pressure and to cause logistical difficulties in the capital. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Лев Шевченко), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to Tymofiy Yurkov, co-founder of Contra-Drone, the drone’s warhead lacks sufficient power to inflict critical damage on large structures like the Pivdennyi bridge. The expert emphasizes that even systematic strikes at the same point over a long period do not guarantee the facility will be put out of commission.

For comparison, the specialist cites the example of the Antonivskyi bridge in Kherson, which could not be completely destroyed even after a series of dozens of hits by HIMARS missiles. Given this data, isolated Shahed strikes pose no threat to the structural integrity of capital engineering works.

Purpose of enemy attacks

Aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap notes that the main tasks of the rf during such actions are logistical destabilization and the intimidation of the civilian population. Such actions force city authorities to restrict traffic between the right and left banks of the Dnipro, creating inconveniences for residents during air raid alerts.

After the attack on the Pivdennyi bridge on October 1, specialists inspected the structure and permitted bus traffic to resume. Despite this, the operation of the metro, which uses the bridge to cross the river, was temporarily suspended for additional structural inspection.
