Ministry of Defence Codifies Varkhan Ground Robotic System for Ukrainian Armed Forces

The cargo platform can travel up to 37 km off-road under heavy load

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and officially allowed the supply of the new Varkhan unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The domestic development is designed to support military logistics and transport cargo in challenging conditions. The system can deliver ammunition, weapons, and specialized equipment directly to frontline positions. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

The new robotic platform was created by specialists at a Ukrainian defence industry enterprise. During the design phase, engineers incorporated the direct requests and operational requirements of military personnel performing logistics tasks on the front lines.

The autonomous system is built on a 4×4 all-wheel drive chassis. It features a dependent suspension and a ground clearance exceeding 200 mm. This structural layout guarantees high cross-country capability when negotiating sand, muddy areas, and extreme off-road terrain.

Technical Specifications and System Autonomy

The Varkhan robotic platform is capable of transporting loads weighing hundreds of kilograms. The operational range of the fully loaded system under complex terrain conditions reaches up to 37 km.

To ensure continuous mission execution, the developers equipped the system with quick-release battery packs. Modular power replacement allows the robot to be returned to service quickly without long charging delays.

The machine is adapted for high-intensity warfare and features a straightforward control algorithm. All structural components possess enhanced durability, while spare parts and consumables remain easily accessible for maintenance.

Integration into a Unified Control Ecosystem

The Varkhan UGV is equipped with multiple redundant communication and control systems. This ensures that operators maintain control over the platform even during the active deployment of electronic warfare assets by enemy forces.

The model functions as part of a comprehensive ecosystem. This includes T-Bone ground control stations, remote antennas, repeaters, masts, and pan-tilt mechanisms. Combining these products forms an integrated solution for unmanned systems management and stable communications.

Earlier, the defence ministry also codified the domestic Zmiy Mini Udarnyi reconnaissance and strike ground robot, developed based on the combat experience of Ukrainian military units.
