European Parliament Vice-President starts hunger strike over situation in Oleshky

The official demands a humanitarian truce and the opening of evacuation routes

European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno has launched a hunger strike over the humanitarian crisis in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Kherson region. She called on the international community to join the action to save civilians. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Юлія Маловічко), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The European Parliament official appealed to civil society organisations and state institutions to join the non-violent campaign. It is essential to achieve an immediate ceasefire, delivery of medicines and food supplies, as well as safe routes for local residents to leave.

The initiative aims to support the efforts of Pope Leo XIV and all figures trying to prevent a large-scale catastrophe. According to the European official, the residents of the temporarily captured town cannot be left to their fate.

A severe shortage of basic food supplies and medical care has persisted in the captured settlement for a long time. Evacuation options remain heavily restricted due to active combat operations and mined roads.

According to available reports, about two thousand civilians remain in the town. The danger threatens both those who cannot leave and those attempting to flee the occupied territory.

Earlier, the situation in the region was discussed during high-level telephone conversations. In particular, the Pope held talks with the Ukrainian leadership and the Russian dictator.
