The total cost of the municipal fleet renewal project is 18.5 million euros
The capital of Ukraine has received 85 new modern buses with a total value of 18.5 million euros with the support of the European Investment Bank. The transport is already running on 16 city routes, increasing the accessibility and comfort of passenger travel. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, based on data from European Investment Bank.
The project is funded under the nationwide Urban Public Transport of Ukraine programme, with a total volume of 200 million euros. Fleet renewal with the support of international partners covers several Ukrainian regions, helping local communities maintain the stable operation of transport networks.
Characteristics of the new transport
The length of each new vehicle is 12 metres, and the total passenger capacity reaches 107 people, of which 27 have seating places. The interiors are equipped with modern climate control systems, heating, information displays, audio announcements, and CCTV cameras.
The low-floor design and the presence of special ramps make movement as convenient as possible for mobility-impaired passengers. In particular, parents with prams, elderly people, and wounded veterans can take advantage of this benefit.
Scale of support for Ukrainian infrastructure
«Despite the colossal pressure that the Russian war creates for Ukrainian cities, communities continue to function, and people continue to use public transport every day», noted Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk.
The total amount of financial assistance from the European Investment Bank for Ukraine has already exceeded 4.5 billion euros. Credit and grant resources are directed towards modernising critical infrastructure and strengthening state resilience.
«These new buses will provide safer and more accessible travel, and we remain firmly resolved to support Ukraine and the services its people rely on every day», noted EIB Group Vice-President Karl Nehammer.
