5 km from Russia border: Military conducts two unique aerial evacuations of wounded

Artificial intelligence helped the drone bypass enemy jamming systems

Fighters of the 475th Separate Assault Regiment CODE 9.2 carried out two successful evacuation operations of heavily wounded soldiers within a week using the StarGate unmanned casevac. The operations took place in the grey zone approximately five kilometers from the state border with Russia. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Ігор Широкун) citing CODE 9.2, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Ground transport could not reach the soldiers’ positions due to difficult terrain, water obstacles, and the constant threat of enemy FPV drones. The rescued servicemen turned out to be 25-year-old Yevhen and 24-year-old Artem, both of whom sustained severe limb injuries during combat operations.

The implementation of the missions also involved the SkyFall team, which is the developer and manufacturer of the StarGate casevac. The operations required coordinated interaction between several units, additional forces, and the deployment of heavy Vampire strike drones to provide fire cover.

Flight under electronic warfare conditions

During one of the missions, the StarGate drone covered nearly 30 kilometers to the wounded soldier’s position and the same distance back with the fighter on board. In the operation area, enemy forces actively used electronic warfare equipment attempting to completely jam GPS signals.

Despite this, thanks to an onboard AI-based navigation system and the skill of the pilots, the drone completed its flight without satellite navigation and successfully finished the evacuation mission.

Plans to establish a medical aviation unit

According to Oleksandr Nastenko, commander of the CODE 9.2 regiment, the next task is to use the acquired experience to train crews and make such missions a systematic practice. He emphasized that the regiment plans to introduce changes to its staff structure and create a separate medical aviation unit within the medical company.

This specialized unit will focus directly on evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield using aerial transport. The initiative aims to enhance casualty extraction capabilities in high-risk frontline areas.
