Karol Nawrocki Convenes Polish National Security Council to Discuss US Base

The council will review the prospect of hosting a permanent contingent of American troops

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has initiated a meeting of the National Security Council scheduled for November 3, 2026. A key item on the agenda will be the establishment of a permanent US military base within the country. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Bartosz Grodecki, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The meeting was announced by the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Bartosz Grodecki. The session will be held behind closed doors and is set to begin at 3:00 PM.

Beyond strategic security enhancements, participants will address current challenges and the prevailing defense landscape. The question of establishing a permanent US base remains a priority for Warsaw.

It is worth noting that as early as June, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Warsaw had received positive signals from Washington regarding this possibility. Cooperation in this area has been actively discussed at a diplomatic level over recent months.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the favorable stance of the American side. The Minister also intends to visit the US in November to continue consultations with Pentagon officials.

A final decision from Washington regarding the opening of the base could be reached by the end of 2026. Discussions are ongoing as part of efforts to strengthen defense ties between the two nations.
