KIIS survey results on Ukrainians’ readiness for a prolonged war

More than 60% of respondents support continuing combat operations until set goals are achieved

The majority of Ukrainians support continuing the war until specific tasks are completed, regardless of the conflict's duration. These data were released by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology following a study conducted in August 2026. This was reported by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to the released data, 76% of respondents believe it is necessary to continue the armed struggle until specific national goals are achieved, regardless of how long the process takes. Meanwhile, 15% of those surveyed lean towards the idea that diplomatic paths to end the confrontation should be sought, even if it entails certain compromises. Another 9% of respondents were unable to formulate their own position on this issue.

Assessment of readiness for prolonged confrontation

Sociologists recorded a shift in sentiment regarding the war’s timeframe. Among those who support continuing the fight, 64% are prepared for the active phase of the war to last for more than a year. Compared to previous measurements, there has been an increase in supporters of the position that the war should continue until final victory, particularly among residents of various regions of the country.

Support for government actions

Researchers also analyzed the public’s attitude towards the current actions of the state leadership. About 62% of respondents positively evaluate the steps taken to achieve defense goals. The level of support for government decisions regarding military actions was found to be higher in the second half of August compared to previous periods.

The survey was conducted using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) among 828 adult citizens in all regions, except for territories temporarily not under Ukrainian control. The sample is representative of the adult population residing in the government-controlled territory as of February 2022.
