The construction of fortifications is part of creating the Baltic Defense Line
Around 150 protective bunkers are planned to be built in the border strip of Ida-Virumaa as part of the creation of the Baltic Defense Line. This was stated by Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur during an hour of questions in the Riigikogu on Wednesday. This was reported by ERR, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
About one hundred protective structures are planned to be located on state-owned land, while approximately fifty will be built on municipal or private property. Reaching agreements with landowners will be necessary regarding bunkers constructed on private plots. In such cases, compensation for inconvenience, leasing, or purchasing the land may serve as solutions.
There are currently no large-scale plans for the state to acquire a broader belt of land. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Defence has approved a youth policy that will increase funding for the Noored Kotkad and Kodutütred organizations over the next four years. Additionally, more attention will be paid to drone piloting training and national defense issues within the basic school curriculum.
Youth-targeted activities will be conducted nationwide, and there are no separate plans exclusively designated for Ida-Virumaa. According to Minister of Defence Martin Herem, the initiatives are broad and primarily cover the entire country.
