Russian industry shows decline for the first time in five years

In 2026, the industrial output of the russian federation decreased by 0.2% due to a crisis

The Ministry of Economic Development of the russian federation has officially recorded a decline in industrial production for the first time in five years. By the end of 2026, a 0.2% drop is expected. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

The ministry stated that instead of the projected 0.6% growth, the enemy’s economy is showing a negative trajectory. For the first eight months of the current year, industrial output remained flat, but in August alone, it decreased by 0.8% year-on-year. This state of affairs is a direct consequence of the Kremlin forcing the economic system onto so-called war tracks.

Factors of economic pressure

The primary destabilizing factor has been the contraction of domestic demand. The situation is aggravated by high inflation, exchange rate volatility, and expensive borrowing costs. A paradoxical result has been the reduction in state defense orders, which, against the backdrop of a broader economic crisis, has led to the degradation of defense-industrial complex enterprises that were supposed to bolster the country’s overall standing.

Sectoral losses and regional crisis

The hardest-hit sectors are those directly dependent on consumer activity and credit availability: the automotive industry, construction, agribusiness, and the chemical sector. Declining income is turning more regions into subsidized areas; there are currently 65 such regions, while only 24 remain net donors.

Scale of industrial reduction

Data show significant losses across key sectors: metallurgy has declined by 5.2%, the chemical industry by 3%, and garment manufacturing by 4.2%. The situation is even more critical for heavy industrial goods: production of railway freight cars has dropped by 30%, and elevator manufacturing by 20%. Petroleum production and refining are also on a steady downward path, with crude oil output potentially hitting a 17-year low by year-end.
