Drones attack Yaroslavl oil refinery in Russia after flying over 700 km

The Yaroslavl facility supplies fuel to Russian military infrastructure

Drones flew over 700 kilometers and attacked the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl. A fire broke out on the industrial zone of the enterprise following the strike. This was reported by Glavcom citing the Telegram channel of Exilenova+, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The strike on the oil refining facility was recorded at night, after which a fire broke out on the territory of the site. No information regarding the nature of the damage at the plant was available at the time of the reports.

Plant capacities

The Slavneft-YANOS plant began operations in 1961 and is among the top five largest oil refineries in Russia by oil processing volume. The enterprise is located approximately 250 kilometers northeast of Moscow, occupying an area of 809.1 hectares.

The refining capacity of the plant is about 15 million tons of oil per year, or approximately 300,000 barrels per day. According to Reuters data, the enterprise processed 14.9 million tons of crude raw materials in 2024.

Ownership structure and products

The enterprise belongs to the Slavneft company, which is jointly controlled by major Russian oil firms Rosneft and Gazprom Neft. The plant produces Euro-5 standard gasoline and diesel fuel, jet fuel, motor oils, fuel oil, and other petroleum products.

Of particular importance is the production of aviation fuel, which is supplied to the central regions of Russia and supports the needs of Russian military infrastructure. The Security Service of Ukraine has previously highlighted the importance of these supplies for military needs.

History of previous attacks

The enterprise has repeatedly become a target for long-range drones throughout 2026. Specifically, as a result of the September 17 strike, the AVT-3 primary crude distillation unit was damaged, accounting for about 40% of the plant’s total capacity.

At that time, another major unit, AVT-4, was undergoing repairs following damage sustained during a previous attack on August 28. Following the September strikes, the refinery was forced to suspend crude oil processing due to equipment damage.
