US representatives will hold preliminary security consultations in Brussels
Working-level talks between Ukraine and Russia mediated by the US will take place in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11. The parties plan to discuss security arrangements, de-escalation, and humanitarian issues. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Катерина Коваль) citing Steve Witkoff, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
In the capital of the United Arab Emirates, the parties will focus on further steps toward peace and future security mechanisms. The US administration views this format as part of efforts to end hostilities.
Consultations in Brussels
Before the event in the UAE, the US delegation will visit Brussels for talks with European partners. Officials from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and NATO will take part in the meetings.
Participants will discuss defense guarantees, the future architecture of European security, and the economic reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure. Washington aims to build on the results of previous contacts that previously took place in Kyiv, Oslo, and Saint Petersburg.
Background of the diplomatic process
Preparations for the summit lasted for several weeks with the participation of international intermediaries. In particular, in late October, the leaders of the Finnish and Norwegian states held telephone talks with the Kremlin leadership regarding the cessation of the armed conflict.
Earlier, the head of the Polish government named another preliminary date for a possible trilateral meeting. In turn, the Ukrainian leadership expressed interest in direct consultations involving the American and Russian sides before wider international formats.
«We look forward to continuing the progress achieved in Kyiv, Oslo, and Saint Petersburg to conclude a comprehensive, lasting peace treaty that will ensure enduring security for generations to come», Witkoff noted.
