Passengers can reach eight European countries via direct trains or transfers
Passengers can reach eight European countries from Ukraine by rail. Some destinations offer direct service, while others require transfers to reach the final European city. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Тетяна Веремєєва) citing Ukrzaliznytsia, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Ukrainian passengers have access to rail connections with Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Moldova, Romania, and Germany. Travel arrangements may involve either direct flights to specific cities or combined routes through transit hubs.
Polish direction and transit hubs
The widest network of international connections is established with Poland, specifically to Przemysl, Chelm, and Warsaw. Trains to Przemysl run from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Kremenchuk, while trains to Chelm depart from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro.
Passengers arriving in these cities have the opportunity to transfer to domestic Polish trains to Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, Katowice, Szczecin, or Lublin. A direct connection to Warsaw is provided by a flight from Kyiv, and a route via Rava-Ruska departing from Chernivtsi is also available.
Connections with Central European countries
It is possible to reach the Czech Republic via a transfer in Przemysl to services running through Krakow and Ostrava or Katowice. The Hungarian direction is served by a direct train from Kyiv to Budapest and connections from Chop and Mukachevo, where passengers are brought from various regions of Ukraine.
The Austrian route to Vienna includes both a direct train from Kyiv and transfer options via Budapest or Chop. To Slovakia, the railway offers services to Bratislava and Kosice through Chop or Mukachevo, with the possibility of onward travel to Poprad and Zilina.
Routes to Moldova, Romania, and Germany
A direct train connects Kyiv and Chisinau on odd-numbered days. It is possible to reach Bucharest through Chisinau or by utilizing a route through Kyiv.
Trips to Germany are primarily based on transfers in Poland or Hungary. In particular, passengers can use services to Berlin, Munich, and Leipzig through hub stations in Przemysl, Warsaw, or Budapest. The company recommends verifying the current schedule and operating days for international routes before every trip.
