Brussels emphasizes the need to implement new rules to strengthen competition
The European Commission expects Ukraine to continue reforming the gas sector and further liberalize the energy market. These steps are part of the commitments within the European integration process. This was reported by European Commission, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
As part of the ongoing dialogue on aligning Ukraine’s energy legislation with European Union standards, European Commission representatives emphasized the importance of systemic changes in the operation of the gas market. Further work on the regulatory framework will help increase industry transparency and create more favorable conditions for a competitive environment. It is expected that the Ukrainian side will focus on implementing already agreed-upon roadmaps concerning energy security and integration into the European system.
Energy reform and European standards
Implementing EU directives remains a priority for Ukraine, despite the difficult wartime conditions. The consistent implementation of standards provided for within the framework of energy cooperation aims to fully open the market to new operators. This also applies to improving pricing mechanisms and strengthening the role of independent regulatory bodies that oversee compliance with rules in the natural gas market.
Infrastructure stability and market mechanisms
Despite numerous challenges associated with the destruction of energy facilities due to hostilities, the European Commission notes Ukraine’s efforts to maintain the stability of the gas transmission system. The introduction of market tools and the further demonopolization of specific industry segments are critical for the sustainable functioning of the energy system. Such steps will contribute not only to internal energy efficiency but also to strengthening energy interaction between Ukraine and EU member states.
