Survivor pensions: do employment status affect benefit payments

The Pension Fund clarified the rules for assigning benefits to full-time students

Children of a deceased breadwinner who study full-time and are under 23 years of age retain the right to pension benefits in the event of employment. Participation in labor activities does not deprive such persons of the right to state assistance. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Pension Fund of Ukraine.

The relevant state regulation norms are enshrined in Article 36 of the Law of Ukraine On Mandatory State Pension Insurance. According to this legislative act, financial assistance is assigned to students of general secondary, vocational-technical, and higher education institutions.

Such payments continue to operate throughout the entire period of education, provided that the maximum age limit does not exceed 23 years. A separate category consists of orphans, to whom assistance is assigned until they reach the same age threshold regardless of their enrollment status.

The legal status of a working student does not constitute an obstacle to receiving social allocations from the state. The presence of official earnings or employment during non-study hours does not cancel previously assigned payments.
