Blocking Starlink will force the Russians to slow down the pace of attacks on Ukrainian logistics. Most of all, this will be felt by units of the Russian Federation in the Pokrovsky direction, where the enemy actively used satellite communications to direct drones.
This was reported by the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), informs the portal PromPolitInform.
Analysts note that Ukraine’s efforts to block Starlink terminals for occupiers are likely to affect Russia’s attempts to carry out aviation isolation of the battlefield.
Several Russian military bloggers complained that the occupation forces could no longer use the terminals, and expressed concern about the consequences that the loss of Starlink’s capabilities could have on the battlefield.
The commander of the Ukrainian brigade of unmanned systems said on February 5 that recently Russian troops had accumulated a significant number of Starlink and that these terminals provided them with stable communication between units.
The commander said that the invaders began to integrate Starlink to control drones, but efforts to block Russian terminals would deprive the enemy of the ability to conduct reconnaissance and strike missions, maintain communication between groups, and also complicate Russian offensive operations.
He noted that the recent blocking of Russian terminals did not lead to a complete “collapse” of Russian forces, but caused significant losses for them.
According to the ISW, without Starlink terminals, Russian troops will probably not be able to campaign to isolate the battlefield at the same pace and depth as in recent weeks.
In particular, recently, the invaders used drones with Starlink support to aim at targets in real time and increase the range of drones for strikes on moving targets, such as trains, as well as on Ukrainian transport along the highway E-50 Pokrovsk – Pavlograd in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
“Russian forces are likely to try to maintain this campaign at the same level of intensity in the near term if they cannot find ways to circumvent the blockage or adapt new technological solutions to replace Starlink,” analysts say.
Starlink for Russians blocked in Ukraine
Recall that in January there was information that the Russians are increasingly using drones from Starlink to bypass the Ukrainian air defense.
Immediately after that, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov said that the Ministry of Defense promptly contacted SpaceX to solve the problem.
Fedorov also said that only authorized Starlink terminals will operate in Ukraine. This will be the next step in the fight against the use of satellite Internet on their drones.
Soon it became known that the Ukrainian troops should quickly verify the Starlink terminals, which they use for defense purposes, so that they continue to work after blocking.
The blocking of Starlink has led to the fact that the Russian army has had serious problems in recent days. In particular, it was difficult to control the troops, and also partially stopped the assaults.
The partisan movement ATESH stated that the Russian invaders in the Zaporizhzhya direction, as a result of the blocking of Starlink, attacked their own troops.
