Donald Trump is engaging senior military officials in negotiations on Ukraine, Russia, and Iran, changing traditional diplomacy.

The Donald Trump administration has reconsidered its approach to key international negotiations, particularly regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine. Instead of classical diplomacy, the White House is increasingly engaging senior military officials, signaling a shift toward a more assertive and responsive foreign policy. This was reported by Comments.ua and the PromPolitInform portal.

According to the Associated Press, for the first time, leading US military officials are participating in strategic-level negotiations with Russia and Iran. US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll plays a key role in contacts with Ukraine. He maintains constant communication with the Ukrainian authorities between rounds of negotiations and effectively serves as a coordinating bridge between Kyiv and Washington.

Driscoll ensures continuity of dialogue on the American side, in particular with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff. According to the Associated Press, this format allows the White House to respond more quickly to changes on the front lines and in the negotiations.

In parallel to the talks in Abu Dhabi, General Alexus Grinkevich, Commander of the US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, joined the talks. His presence is seen as an attempt to renew direct military contact with the Kremlin to maintain a constant channel of communication.

Washington also sent a separate signal in the Middle East. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US Central Command, participated in indirect talks with Iran in Oman for the first time, appearing in full military uniform, which analysts interpret as a show of force.

The Associated Press believes that Trump’s reliance on military negotiators signifies a departure from traditional diplomacy and a desire for quick, tough decisions in global conflicts, particularly the war in Ukraine.
