US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said that ending the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine is very high on his list of tasks. This was reported by UA.NEWS, according to the PromPolitInform portal.
While in the White House, Trump expressed his belief that stopping the conflict would be relatively easy, despite the enormous mutual hatred between the leaders of both states. Trump stressed that he seeks to stop the fighting primarily because of the large-scale human losses, which, according to his calculations, reach about 30 thousand soldiers per month.
The American leader described the current events as the worst tragedy since World War II and noted that in order to achieve a result, the parties must begin to communicate with each other. At the same time, he once again repeated his traditional thesis that the conflict could have been avoided if it had not been for the results of the previous US presidential elections. When asked about possible actions in the event of a failure of the negotiations, Trump replied that the only way out was to make maximum efforts to find a compromise.
For his part, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the negotiations emphasized the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of Ukraine and taking into account its security interests in any peace plans. Despite differences in approaches to the causes of the war, both leaders agreed on the need to intensify diplomatic efforts. Currently, officials from Washington and Berlin are preparing joint proposals that could become the basis for the future negotiation process.
US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized his predecessor regarding the volume and conditions of military assistance to Ukraine.
US Vice President J.D. Vance said that President Donald Trump has given a direct mandate to his negotiating team, led by National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, to intensify efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
