Ukraine is the first in the world to open access to combat data for AI training

The Cabinet of Ministers has allowed international partners to use millions of personnel from the front to improve autonomous systems.

Ukraine has become the first country in the world to provide partners with access to training artificial intelligence models for drones based on authentic combat experience. This was reported by the Kyiv Post, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

Ukraine opens access to combat data for AI training

The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution introducing an innovative format for interaction between the state, domestic business and international structures.

This initiative allows the use of real front-line data to improve AI algorithms in autonomous systems.

To implement the project, a specialized AI platform was deployed at the Innovation Center of the Ministry of Defense.

It ensures secure work with huge arrays of labeled photo and video materials, guaranteeing the protection of confidential databases while constantly updating information.

How Ukraine and partners jointly develop autonomous drones

Fedorov emphasized that the future of armed conflicts belongs to autonomous complexes.

Under the new system, the General Staff of Ukraine will summarize requests from units on the front line. The requests will contain only technical requirements – without specifying specific drone models or manufacturers.

Ukraine’s strategic task is to teach drones to identify targets faster and analyze the situation, which is impossible without high-quality data for training neural networks.

Ukraine already has a unique base – millions of annotated frames from tens of thousands of combat missions.

These resources have already been integrated into the DELTA system for automatic detection of enemy objects. Currently, international developers are showing high interest in accessing such a data set for modernization of equipment.

The Minister concluded that this is a classic example of a win-win strategy: partners receive invaluable material for training their models in the conditions of modern warfare, and Ukraine – access to the latest technological solutions for the needs of the front. Currently, the state is open to joint analytics and development of innovations together with allies.

What is the DELTA system

DELTA is a combat digital ecosystem that creates a technological advantage for the Ukrainian army: it allows you to see the battlefield in real time, plan operations and exchange information within the unit, brigade, group, and if necessary – with allies.

The system works everywhere – from a laptop, tablet or phone, and is used by commanders of all levels.

DELTA successfully passed the information security check and real combat test: during the defense of Kyiv in 2022, during the destruction of the enemy’s Black Sea Fleet, as well as during the liberation of Zmiyinyi Island and Kherson.
