“I don’t think it will last long”: Budanov made an optimistic statement about the end of the war

Budanov made an optimistic statement about the end of the war: the parties understand the limits of compromise.

Peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow are moving toward a deal, and resolving the war in Ukraine may not take long.

According to RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the head of the Office of the President Kirill Budanov in an interview with Bloomberg, informs the PromPolitInform portal.

According to him, there is progress in the negotiation process with Russia. Budanov is also convinced that he will not be delayed.

“They all understand that the war must end. That’s why they’re negotiating. I don’t think it will take long,” he said.

The head of the OP admitted that until now both sides had held “maximalist positions” in negotiations mediated by the United States, but they were gradually approaching a compromise. He noted that the aggressor country has a clear incentive to conclude an agreement.

“Unlike us, they spend their own money. These are huge sums – already in trillions,” Budanov said.

At the same time, he refused to say what a possible compromise could look like on the territorial issue, which is the most difficult in the negotiations.

Bloomberg, citing sources in the Kremlin, states that the negotiations have reached an impasse, and the parties have only fixed positions that remain unacceptable to each other.

Negotiations on peace in Ukraine

Recall that yesterday Budanov said that strikes on the oil terminals of the aggressor country affect the negotiation process. For this reason, Ukraine will hear at the next talks “a lot of new things” from the Russians.

It should be noted that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky rejected any exchange of the territory of Donbass for other regions. He said that the Russian Federation understands that it will not be able to hold the territory of the border, and the moment will come when the Armed Forces of Ukraine will oust the Russians from there.

Recently, Bloomberg, citing sources, wrote that the United States believes that, despite Washington’s shift in focus to the Middle East, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are still possible.
